We are now accepting enrolments
Sacred Heart School Waikiwi welcomes enrolments for children in Years 0-6 (ages 5-11).
We are a non-zoned, state-integrated Catholic primary school catering to Years 0-6. We provide future-focused
learning, grounded in traditional gospel values.
We’re proud to be a smaller school, with a roll of approximately 80 students.
Why Sacred Heart School?
Highlights for students attending our school and their families include:
Smaller class sizes
As a small school, we typically have smaller class sizes, with teachers better able to cater for individual needs.
And our students are achieving great results – academically and personally.
We are proud to report our school punches above its weight academically, with 75% of students reading above
their year level and 5% of our students having been invited to attend Enrich@ILT’s gifted education
programme.
Students not meeting expectations in any area of the curriculum are also quickly identified and provided
additional support.
A caring community
Our smaller size means all students know each other. We encourage connections between students of all year
levels, with older students supporting younger students as they transition into school. Our staff place a strong
focus on enabling our students to be happy, confident learners.
We also have a sense of community among parents and whānau, with many actively contributing to school
initiatives.
Holistic, values-based education
The educational programme of Sacred Heart School is based upon the Catholic philosophy of education, which
focuses on the development of the whole person – intellectual, social, moral, spiritual, aesthetic, emotional and
physical growth.
Our Catholic faith guides our teaching, underpinned by our gospel values: aroha (love), tika (justice), wairua
(spirit), manaaki (hospitality) and mana (charisma).
Outstanding opportunities
We have a wide range experiences and activities on offer, both sporting and cultural.
Our school sporting calendar includes swimming lessons, athletics, cross country, a ski trip, a colour run, and
visits from external providers to teach specific skills such as hockey and bike safety. We have numerous extra-
curricular sporting opportunities and teams, including rippa/touch rugby, football, netball, hockey, miniball, futsal,
cricket and flipperball.
Our full school performs kapa haka at Polyfest and participates in the school production. Private and group music
lessons are also offered by Kennedy School of Music at school, during school hours.
Our senior students attend an annual camp and are all provided with leadership opportunities.
A vibrant learning environment
Our school buildings have recently been rebuilt and the result is a bright, modern and safe learning environment
for our students to enjoy.
Eligibility for enrolment
Our school is non-zoned, meaning we can accept enrolments from students located anywhere in or around
Invercargill.
Preference is given to Catholic students and families, however when space on the roll allows, we may consider
enrolments from anyone who shares our values.

The Catholic Church, not the Government, is responsible for the ownership costs of the land and buildings
associated with integrated Catholic schools. Attendance dues are a contribution towards the costs associated
with the land and buildings of the school, including rates, insurance, maintenance and renovations. This is paid to
the Catholic Diocese of Dunedin and is a compulsory fee.
Does my child need to bring a digital device to school?
No. Digital technology-based learning does feature in our curriculum, and the school provides iPads for students
to use for this. Students are not required to bring their own device.
